Those Two Blue Eyes

While most of the songs in our Community Guitar repertoire are long-established and oft-recorded, These Two Blue Eyes is neither. I learned it from my good friend Jay Mankita, who had learned it from a recording titled A Song That Will Linger by two fine musicians, Jody Stecher and Kate Brislin (shown right). Since then Jay and I have learned several other songs from Stecher/Brislin recordings and I suggest you track them down and do the same. Here's a clip of their take on the song:

Stecher and Brislin credit the song as Traditional, but recordings of it are either extremely scarce or cleverly concealed by alternate titles. Here's the one and only other take I've found, recorded by Woody Guthrie and Cisco Houston in the 1940's (as part of a medley) under the title Blue Eyes. You can hear both the similarity to our version and where it diverges. I'll take Stecher/Brislin's, but here's Woody/Cisco's:
